I recently filmed more interviews for the documentary. we have been sticking to the shooting schedule but i thought that it would be a lot better to get all the interviews together as soon as possible so we could work out if we needed anymore, or we needed to ask anymore questions to try and best portray our narrative to the audience. I recently Interviewed my mum on the aspects of gaming. in this interview we knew that were were going to get a negative viewpoint on the overall concept of gaming. we knew that this dislike for gaming could be exploited in ways which would be easy to make our audience pick up on the narrative for our own documentary.
| This example clearly shows that i am able to take points form the interview which could be at complete opposite end to each other, but it would still look like they were in the exact same sentence. using this method is extremely effective for me to do due to the fact that it allows me to give off an image i may not have been able to do without it. with me being able to manipulate the footage, i can make the audience hear what i want, therefore portraying the narrative in a much more effective way that just showing them lost of different parts of the interview. i can condense it hugely, but still show the bits i want. |
Filming the interviews first and using them like this also help me to plan cut away shots to film that relate to what the interviewee is actually saying. When making the shooting schedule, we always left a blank space after an interview would be shot in case we needed to film lots of cutaway shots. this makes it easier for us as now we can film all the cutaway shots that we need to at just one time. filming the interviews first was always a good idea as you may not know what cutaway shots you need until you have heard what the interviewee has actually said about the chosen narrative.
