After gathering the channel ident, some of the cutaway shots and an interview, i could finally start to piece the documentary together. following the storyboard in this piece was the aim, but at some points we had different ideas that seemed better than the storyboard. It follows the general idea of the storyboard but because we didn't include an ident in it, then we had to implement that, and have sightly different shots that we originally thought at the start just to make sure that the documentary flowed well from start to finish. In many documentaries they give a little intro and then go into the title screen rather than have the title screen straight away. This can be seen in this panorama example:
In this example of the first few minutes, it can be seen that there is a little introduction to what the documentary consists of and what all the stages of Todorov's theory actually is. this is good as it tells the audience what to expect but doesn't give it away, but it also allows you to grip the audience by showing good bits of the documentary that are later on, that maybe you feel, as the documentary maker, would be a great bit of viewing for the audience. | |
Having this introduction like it would be in the real documentaries i think makes our content looks a lot more professional. It allows us also to grip our audience and maybe appeal to a wider range of viewers if we show what the documentary has in it rather just just start off at the beginning of the story straight away. it allows us to put the idea in the audiences head of "what happens next?"
As long as we dont stray to far away from the story board when editing the documentary then we should be ok. making are that we still have a detailed plan which will fit with what we want to do is important because we know what and how much we have to film.
